Creator Spotlight: Sean Morriseau

Whether it’s writing stories, creating music, public speaking, or making you laugh, Sean is making waves in several different pools.

His spirit name is Tree Standing Alone, his other name is Sean Morriseau, or even Sean Skiez if you listen to his music, but you may know him as Native Pool Boy. Twenty-eight-years-old and living in Thunder Bay, Ontario with his daughter, Sean dedicates every free moment he has to his craft. Even back when he was growing up on the Fort William First Nation Ontario Reserve, he dreamed of a life where everyone knew his name.

“I’ve always had an interest for wanting to be known,” said Sean. “Almost as if I wanted to be famous but that sounds cliché.”

With his elders and knowledge keepers as influences, he set out on a mission to tell his own story and possibly help others in the process of doing so. Creative expression has always been an outlet for Sean but it wasn’t until he started making videos back in 2018 that other people started to notice him.

“I stopped caring about how others saw me and started to love myself,” he said regarding when he started to post videos online. “Overtime Native Pool Boy has become more than just me. It’s everyone that feels they need to have their voice heard.”

Native Pool Boy embodies Sean’s comedic side and the voice he’s most know for. It sprouts from his early days of being a creator under the name Your Mom’s Pool Boy and came into its final stages when Sean realized a lot of his videos covered Indigenous topics. He now stands as an example of breaking cycles, being resilient, and knowing your purpose in life even if others don’t like or respect how you’re doing it.

He’s collaborated with the likes of Lady Tuguy, Joey Styles, Sideneck, and Brett Mooswa but still has hopes of gracing the silver screen for Reservation Dogs, Letterkenny, or Trailer Park Boys. Sean hopes to continue the pace he has going while consistently growing with his peers and always telling his story along the way.

“I just want to be able to give back to the communities and spread positive messages,” Sean summarized.

It’s easy to see that he’s well on his way to accomplishing these goals. His music, stories, and videos carry these messages with grace, structure, and the occasional laughter to wash it all down. I for one cannot wait to see all the great things he has ahead of him.
